Bolusiella maudiae (Bolus) Schltr

A rarely seen epiphytic gem

Introduction

Bolusiella is a small genus of Angraecoid orchids that consist of approximately six species which are found over much of Sub Saharan Africa.  Bolusiella have also been found on the Comoro Islands. Bolusiella maudiae is the only species in the genus that occurs in South Africa.

  1. From a fellow South African living in Ireland – thanks Craig for this introduction to the world of Bolusiella maudiae. My aunty lived in Nyoni, not too far from Eshowe, and we spent many a holiday rambling around her farm, it was a tropical paradise complete with giant land snails and jade vines. I wish now that I had been looking out for this diminutive beauty!
